Pharissa Robinson, JD, MS, RHIA, CPMA
Pharissa is a graduate of Loyola University School of Law. She also holds a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of New Orleans. She is certified through AHIMA and AAPC as a Professional Medical Auditor and Health Information Management Administrator. She has taught finance and healthcare courses at Southern University, Ashford University and Delgado College. During the summer of 2012, she trained at Harvard’s (Continuing Education) Business School to lead Complex Capital Projects. She has worked in various leadership capacities where she was responsible for managing complex healthcare projects, including that of Chief Corporate Compliance Officer for LSU Healthcare Network, Coding Director and Compliance Director for several healthcare organizations and state agencies. As a former Director at LSU Health Sciences Center, Administrator with the Air Force in Medical Records, a Compliance Administrator with the local housing agency, and Government Accounts Billing Analyst with Ochsner Health Systems, her knowledge and expertise is built upon a solid healthcare foundation. In July 2015, she published a study focused on health disparities by zip code in New Orleans 10 years after Hurricane Katrina, and in 2016 she was named a New Orleans City Business “Healthcare Hero” in recognition of her contributions as a professor, healthcare leader and for her civic work within the community. She also published a work in September 2018 titled Women in Education.
She is originally from New Orleans where she practiced family and healthcare law and most recently worked as an Attorney Adviser for the Office of Medicare Appeals, a division located within the United States Department of Health and Human Services. While there she wrote healthcare decisions for Administrative Law Judges focusing on RAC overpayments, inpatient and outpatient provider denials. Ms. Robinson specializes in all areas of compliance, including audit, standards and disclosures. With her compliance and regulatory experience, she brings a strong, particular expertise in compliance and appeals.
